Nationwide will not renew Series sponsorship UPDATE: Nationwide Insurance will exit its title sponsorship of NASCAR's secondary series following the '14 season, but the company plans to increase its spending in the sport by sponsoring a Sprint Cup team, buying media, cutting track deals and maintaining its position as NASCAR's official insurer. Nationwide is in the sixth year of a seven-year series title sponsorship. The title rights and media package cost approximately $8M a year. Nationwide CMO Matt Jauchius said the deal, which was signed in '07, had helped the company expand its business and earn the respect and trust of avid NASCAR fans. By increasing its sponsorship in the Sprint Cup, where it currently sponsors Roush Fenway Racing driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and continuing to endorse and feature Danica Patrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in advertising during Cup races, he hopes the company can expand brand awareness with casual NASCAR fans. Jauchius said, "Being a series sponsor was the right thing at that particular time but we see Sundays (for Cup races) as the next step. You'll see us lean into this even more at the Cup level. ... I will spend more money in 2014 and 2015 (in NASCAR) by shifting assets around a bit." NASCAR plans to begin searching for a new title sponsor immediately. That effort will be led by Chief Sales Officer Jim O'Connell.( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! )(9-18-2013) !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Yes, the France Family empire is crumbling. Sweet Pete from Autoextremist.com wrote a fantastic article about it this week. It's worth a read, and probably deserves a mention in a separate thread, it's that good.

A few snippets:
"It didn't really work out that way, did it? And why is that exactly? Please refer to point 1. When push comes to shove and despite of all of NASCAR's alleged marketing and media savvy, it's a family business run with all the subtlety of a traveling carnival. When things are going well it's all "kumbaya" with the teams and team owners, the drivers, sponsors and the manufacturers. When things come apart like they did last week, we get a collective shrug from NASCAR led by Brian France and a lecture about racing "100 percent" for the credibility of the sport."
"The dichotomy between the doers - the team owners, drivers, crews and especially the manufacturers and the sponsors - and the NASCAR "overlords" is becoming more glaring with each self-inflicted crisis. It's readily apparent that for the France family it's all about the money, as if anyone needed to be reminded of that fact. But every once in a while we're reminded of it in such stunning, emphatic fashion that it gives everyone pause. Last week's incidents, recriminations and post-race orchestrations were a not-so-subtle message from the France family and the NASCAR machine that the "doers" ultimately will do exactly what's best for the France family and NASCAR - or else."

Can we just have tobacco/drug/alcohol sponsorship again? I think people are smart enough to know those things are not helpful to their health to be mislead anymore.

Dip, Auto Parts, Coffee, Beer the 4 best NASCAR sponsors in one picture. (There were no cigarette advertisements because of Winston being the title sponsor.)

I'm sorry people are not smart enough when Honey Boo Boo is a show that people watch.

The Busch sponsorship just worked so nicely with the already common phrase "Bush League" from baseball. Too bad.
Personally, I find most insurance even more distasteful than Busch beer.

TBH, I would never have imagined you could sponsor a whole series in NASCAR for 8million a year. Especially when a full season sprint cup car costs 16million!

A Cup car on the grid (and, presumably, a fourth Roush-Fenway car for Trevor Bayne or Chris Buescher will be the car on the grid) is better for the sport as a whole than a title sponsor for Grand National.
